This map of New York State shows income per capita for all 62 counties in New York State. In this map, there are several patterns that one can see about income per capita in New York State. The main pattern is that higher income per capita are found in urban areas than found in rural areas.

Looking at New York State, the population of large cities in New York State like New York, Buffalo, Albany and Syracuse have a higher income per capita than rural areas. This trend can be seen in urban centers because people that live in urban areas have a higher cost of living than people who live in rural areas. Housing, food, utilities are much higher in urban areas than in rural areas because there is a higher population found in urban areas. Where a good portion of counties that a majority of the population have a low income per capita are found in upstate New York. Pretty much all the counties found in the Adirondack Mountains and the Southern Tier contain a population where many of the people have a low income per capita. The majority of the counties found upstate that consist of high population also have a high income per capita. The reason why these counties that a majority of the population have a high income per capita rate because of a higher cost of living brought upon by a high population. There are some random counties that may be located in rural areas that a majority of the population has a high income rate. There are also counties located in urban areas that have a low income per capita. The various reasons for this can include a high or low unemployment rate, crime rate, and income level.
